Blackstar have got a great feel for what bassists are looking for in the core of their bass amplifier combos and introduce the Unity Pro Bass Series U120 with chorus, compression and overdrive to meet their tone-colouring demands. Whether active or passive, your solid-body bass' distortion and modulation can be toggled via a footswitch (not included) while the pad switch and input volume can be matched with the output of your guitar and, using the knobs and switches of this 120-Watt Unity amp, the sound character of your electric bass can be easily changed to either classic or contemporary.
The Unity 120: A Mighty, United Bass Sound
With a little help from the specially-designed Eminence 12" Opus speaker, you can pump out tight, low grooves and melodic lines on stage or while rehearsing. One of the two line outputs can be linked to a PA system and you're given the choice to plug in either a mono jack cable or use the XLR connector with ground lift to counter any possible ground loops. Naturally, this output can be hooked up to an interface as well and there's an MP3/line input that can be used to play along to any pre-recorded backing track. For even more raw sonic power and the fullness of an extra speaker cab, the active Unity 250ACT (not included) can be connected to the Cab Link output to shape a mighty, united bass sound.

Degelijk afgewerkt product met heel wat voorzieningen aan boord. Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar de preset "modern". Die zorgt voor een mooie warme klank. De combo heeft een echt gezonde sound, en is behoorlijk ruis - arm, wat voor mij persoonlijk essentieel is. Ook de compressor is functioneel, dit wanneer je naar een "vetter" geluid streeft. Er is een chorus maar die is niet regelbaar qua frequentie. De line-out heb ik nog niet kunnen testen, maar zou degelijk zijn, en in dat geval is de combo ook inzetbaar in luidere settings. Het vermogen van 120 W had ik liever 150 W gezien, maar voor de rest valt op dit ding niet veel aan te merken, veel waar voor de prijs.
